BA in Art and Architectural History Learning Outcomes
Introductory Courses
A1. understand major eras and/or periods in art and architectural history from prehistory to the Renaissance
A2. understand buildings and objects across diverse media as material expressions of a society, culture, or political context.
A3. awareness of the connections between different cultures and civilizations across geographic regions and eras
A4. comparatively analyze key works of art and architecture
A5. understand materials and techniques in the production of art, architecture, and material culture
A6. ability to engage research in the field/summarize a scholarly argument
A7. ability to construct a formal analysis of a work of art or architecture
A8. understand the basic vocabulary required to analyze and describe verbally and/or graphically key works of art and architecture to construct a formal analysis of a work of art or architecture
Intermediate Courses
B1. deepen historical knowledge of a topic within the field through attention to social, cultural, and political context
B2. appreciate or understand the historiography and/or theories and methods of art and architectural history
B3. extend and refine comparative analyses to elucidate key historical issues
B4. critically interpret key works of art and architecture
B5. produce an independent research paper utilizing primary and/or secondary sources with proper citations in support of an argument
Advanced Courses
C1. understand current historical, theoretical, and critical perspectives as appropriate to the subject under study
C2. construct a convincing argument, and employ key concepts operatively in the construction of such an argument
C3. develop greater critical acuity in the assessment and analysis of supporting evidence, in both primary and secondary sources
C4. identify and analyze key questions and problems in the field
C5. conceptually develop, research, and present an independent project, showing a mastery of writing and speaking skills
