Residence Life and Housing / Athletics Event and Operations Graduate Assistant
Position Description
The Graduate Assistant for Game Operations & Residential Support is a shared-role position designed to support the operational and event management needs of the Department of Athletics while providing on-call support for the Residence Life and Housing professional staff. This two-year appointment offers a unique opportunity for graduate students seeking experience in athletic event operations, facility management, and student life administration. The Graduate Assistant will primarily complete responsibilities related to athletic event management, game operations, and departmental logistics while participating in a rotating on-call schedule to assist Residence Life during evenings and weekends as needed. Due to the year-round operational needs of Athletics and Residence Life, the Graduate Assistant is expected to maintain availability during university break periods, including January intersession and spring break, when athletic competitions, campus events, and residential operations remain active.
Primary Responsibilities
Game Operations / Event Management (Primary Role) (Approx. 18 Hours/Week)
Under the supervision of the Athletic Event Management Staff, responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the planning, setup, execution, and breakdown of home athletic events and special events.
- Coordinating game-day logistics, including staffing, scheduling, facility preparation, and operational timelines, including weekly meetings.
- Serving as an event manager or game operations representative for assigned home contests
- Assisting with student worker supervision, training, and scheduling
- Coordinating with officials, visiting teams, athletic trainers, facilities staff, and campus partners during events
- Managing game-day equipment, signage, crowd flow, and venue presentation
- Supporting live streaming and table operations as needed
- Assisting with championship hosting responsibilities and special departmental initiatives
- Supporting facility operations and assisting with game-day troubleshooting and event management needs
- Assisting with inventory management and operational preparation for athletic facilities and equipment
- Maintaining availability during academic break periods, including intersession and spring break, to assist with athletic events and departmental operational needs
Residence Life & Housing Support (Secondary Role) (Approx. - 1-2 Hours/week)
In coordination with Residence Life and Housing leadership, responsibilities include:
- Serving as an on-call professional staff member on a rotating evening and weekend schedule
- Providing emergency response in collaboration with Residence Life staff for seven residential communities
- Completing incident documentation and required reports
- Assisting with emergency response and student support as needed
- Participating in required training related to crisis response, student conduct, and university policies
- Office Hours at dedicated times, as discussed with the Director of Residence Life
- Participates in Residence Life Trainings in August
- Will attend bi-weekly Residence Life & Housing Staff meetings by request.
This role is intended to supplement Residence Life operations and does not replace the responsibilities of full-time Residence Life professionals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor鈥檚 degree and enrollment in a graduate program during the appointment period required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities across departments
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours, including on-call responsibilities
- Professional judgment and discretion when handling sensitive matters
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in athletic event management, athletic communications, and facility operations
- Familiarity with the setup and take-down of athletic facilities and gameday needs
- Experience in residence life, student affairs, or student support roles
- Interest in a career in athletics administration, student affairs, or higher education
Salary and Benefits
- Up to two-year appointment
- $5,000.00 Annual stipend
- 12-credits of graduate tuition provided per academic year enrolled
